CENTRAL WEST END
Central West End (CWE) is one of the most beautiful and historic neighborhoods of Saint Louis. The name says it all, it is the "central" part of the western end of town. With origins in the late 1800s, CWE remains one of the city's crown jewels. As members of the Central West End community, it is important to not only learn the history of this fine city, but to create our own history!
Urban development began in the 1880s. Lindell was the first street to undergo housing construction.
The St. Regis Apartments were constructed in 1903 with many speculations about which St. Regis this building was named after.
The Park Royal on Lindell Boulevard was built in 1929, with renovations in 2007.
With planning beginning in the 1870s, the Cathedral Basilica of Saint Louis was completed in 1914.
The famous Chase Park Plaza was developed in 1922, named after creator Chase Ullman.
Central West End was coined a "historic district" in 1974.
